”Don’t make a mountain out of a mole hill… shake it off, let it out..  talk about it… get over it.. we try to down play everything shrug it off and make sure nothing disrupts our “everyday routine”. A routine that we  aren’t even sure works for us. We have just created it and try to live up to it over and over again until something stops us dead in our tracks and throws everything into question. Not really sure when the switch happened that we coast through life and kick into defense mode only when “bad things happen” and then the flags go up. We go to the doctor’s office, pick up a prescription, drive up to Walgreens, take the magic pill prescribed to “fix” the problem after asking us a total of 3 questions by our doctor. Cant wait to take the first dose and let the healing begin, never thinking there would be an off chance it might be doing more harm than good.

So what happens when doctor man’s plan doesn’t go according to plan? Or worse, those pesky little drug side effects, actually start to side effect?? What do we expect our bodies to do next? Defend more. Fight harder.  Switch it up and fight some more? What if we weren’t preparing or practicing a strong offense on a daily basis? Where exactly does our body pull healing power and strength from at that point? Where are the healing reserves we’ve built up for ourselves?

It has to come from how we live our day to day lives. Its where we have to focus our efforts. How though? All the advice you could possibly want about anything is available at our finger tips. There’s a “how to” for everything.  Problem is, no one can tell you how to do it for you. Only you. And that sucks but we owe it to ourselves to figure it out. Hearing our bodies is the hardest thing we will have to do. It talks to us every day.  Simple indigestion is your body screaming in pain and inflammation. But we ignore it over and over again until something happens like a slap in the face to force us to hear it . We have to start listening though. Does our body really need to beg for permission to feel good?? The human body really is miracle but even the best oiled machines breakdown..

So how do we take care of ourselves? Living. Eating right. Exercising. Being in gratitude. Loving. Laughing. Splurging. Staying up late. Sleeping in. Trying new things. Breaking your routine. Being disciplined and letting go once in a while. No guilt trips. Being intentional.

“With fresh eyes and loving appreciative hearts, we reconsider our daily rounds. As we learn to savor everyday epiphanies, we encounter the sacred in the ordinary.”

Nothing is ordinary. No one is ordinary. Everyday is a blessing. Its sad when life has to throw you a curve ball to help you see it, why not seek it on our own? Its hard not to get drawn into the dark areas of the mind and the toxicity of life but there is so much more good in life than there is bad. If we can find a way to keep focus on that, we can learn to actually enjoy life and live it as we were intended. Which is why my Yoga partner and I a such strong believers in a strong yoga practice. That’s why meditation is such the craze right now. Meditation is teaching you mind/body the art of breathing. We have gotten away from allowing our bodies to BREATHE!! We have to allow our bodies to restore themselves by being kind to ourselves. Always be preparing by for when something happens to your body or soul ( that can be just as crushing..) , you will be able to fight back. Your body needs you as much as you need it.

Nourish your body. Empower your being.
